Villa Europa Saarbrücken

description

brief description:

situated in a beautifully idyllic setting above the city of Saarbrücken, Villa Europa consists of two buildings from different eras, which were arranged at an angle to each other. The centre building, the former Villa Röchling, was built in neo-baroque style in 1913. The second aisle was added in 1950 and used as a retirement home. In 1983, the entire complex was transformed into a boarding school. Today, Villa Europa, which comprises the neo-baroque building, the 1950s annex, as well as the surrounding park, is listed as a historic monument

interior architecture:
during the course of restoration works in 2005, the neo-baroque appearance of the two assembly halls and the library in the 1913 building were preserved and revived in terms of colour. The entrance area boasts a generous foyer and a glass porch. The sweeping stair complex was extended to the basement, facilitating direct access to the library repository. In front of the assembly hall on the upper floor, another foyer can be accessed, offering a direct view of the open space in the main entrance area. The wall separating assembly hall and foyer is pierced by a cube, the interpreter´s booth - indispensable for the institutes housed in the villa. The structure of the 1950s annex, which features a multitude of same sized rooms (remnants of the retirement home), has been left intact during the 2005 restoration, lending itself perfectly for the new use of the building (seminar and conference rooms)
