Château de La Grange

description

brève description:

this property, which comprises a stately mansion, outbuildings, stables, a dovecot, a park and a moat, perpetuates the image of 18th century French manorialism. The château itself is a one-storey Renaissance-style mansion with mansard roofs, which was built in 1731, based on design plans by French architect Robert de Cotte. It was erected on a so-called motte, an artificial mound, on which once had stood a medieval castle that was destroyed (with the exception of the moat) in the Thirty Years´ War. The corners of the building are emphasized by rusticated quoins. Projections, mouldings, cornices, central pediments, and balconies constitute the essential decorative elements of the building´s restrained Classical facade.
