brief description: 

The building was erected in 1937 to serve as the Reich’s Finance Ministry. At the time, the Franz-Josef-Röder-Straße was still the Hindenburgstraße (named after Paul von Hindenburg, the former President of the German Reich). From 1946 until 1954, Gilbert Grandval, France’s Military Governor (later High Commissioner) of the Saar Protectorate resided here.
